Innovation, Flatness & Decorative | The specific time to alter
Art Nouveau was the time, the movement of change. Changing the artistic manner into a Flat & simple design, and this is what influenced Graphic Designers. Graphic Design is all about Visual Communication & Art Nouveau is as close as Graphic Design. The difference is one is artistic mostly created by hand, because at that time there was no technology although one could have worked with Printing but many artists had the expertise of precision and therefore they could create excellent work of art.
The painting below (work by Alphonse Mucha) is clearly showing elements associated with Graphic Design. There are few differences that both subjects will not match, but the elements that are the same are mostly Flatness, Stroke Lines (bold or thin), Vibrant colours, Contrast, Space.
Relationship with Japanese Art.

Advanced detail
This masterpiece has much to do with Graphic Design, Art Nouveau was the change and was close to a Revolution but it was the bomb of the artistic era. The elements found in this banner, a banner that is a rich hand crafted and painted has lots of detail within each symbol, line, even the colours tend to blend but still they have that vibrant and solid feel. Strokes are found within the outline of the persona showing a powerful element, given the importance to someone. Mucha made sure that the lady with the feather had as much importance as the creativity. Strokes have the power to project the attracted object, in this case the Woman. Colours are very opulent in a way that they contrast smoothly within each other. The background for example is dull - Brown, Yellow, Gold, Shades of Blue, Olive whereas the foreground is very high toned, so here Mucha shows the beauty of importance, the communication between the Woman & the Feather as the title goes. |
Art Nouveau amalgamated with Graphic Design
Floral Design, Organic, Geometric Designs, Flowing lines & not to forget Blossoms of plants.
This is what Art Nouveau is all about and this Graphic Designer accomplished all of them by creating a logo on screen.
