using the advantage of satire & revolt
DADA is a big influence to Graphic Design, by means of artistic manners. Although Graphic Design is all about visual communication, therefore Satire & Revolt are means of communications, grabbing attention was their part. Many of the artists at that time were mostly political, they wanted to change things they wanted words & truth spread all over the world. How did they maintain this ? Dadaist made use of photography & Explosive typography - this transformed to a Photomontage. The image seen here (Adolf Hitler) shows an extreme communicative way of gathering attention to the public, the Nazi symbol replaced instead of his heart, meaning that his heart won the Nazi. |
John Heartfield a.k.a Helmut Herzefelde
John changed his name due to protesting against the nazi german army, therefore he took the opportunity to create aggressive & violent photomontages that Juxtapose every object. Using freely drawn lettering & heavy bold typefaces to create that important feel. John here clearly created posters that are a subject to the loathe against German Nazi, he is against everything that has to do with Germany. The first poster that shows John holding the puppet, juxtaposed face of Adolf Hitler the leader of Nazi Germany, clearly resulting an opposition that is the truth. Puppet is subjected as being controlled by someone using fingers or hand, but the message here is being translated otherwise, we have Hitler being a commander on everyone in power, but using Capitalism against him John, produced a photomontage using these.
The second poster is created by using a photograph, stating Blood & Iron, the old motto of a new empire.

Religion vs the Swastika
Powerful poster, a photomontage technique and of course a juxtaposing characters, the nazi was edited with Jesus and so are the wooden edges being added onto the Cross, forming the Swastika, a symbol of the German Nazi Party. The message here is trying to communicate through the aspect of not letting anymore negativity onto people's back, no more contrary. The nazi is keeping on building those wooden plates to form the fascist symbol and other religious beliefs mostly christian countries are trying to eliminate this threat. Typography is being used as a title & subtitle of the poster, the typeface is bold & attractive although the picture takes all the space, but it is communicating well. |
